Visiting the Castle
Dunollie Castle, now a Scottish scheduled monument, has set the horizon over Oban Bay for more than eight centuries.
We are currently in the process of consolidating Dunollie Castle to stop degeneration of the ruin and allow public access to enhance our visitors experience.
Dunollie Castle Consolidation Progress To Date:
Phase I – Completed March 2014 £100,000
Installing safety fencing around vulnerable areas and stabilising wall heads.
Phase II – Completed May 2016 £257,000
Repair and consolidation of South East & South West Walls and removal of the ivy. The under croft is now safely accessible and fencing has been removed from the front facing walls.
Despite the ancient monument currently being in a critical state, we hope that you will continue toenjoy visiting the castle compound, exploring the under croft, reading about the castle’s history and relishing the spectacular views which once provided a magnificent vantage point for the Kings of Dalriada and the Lords of Lorn.
Please note: The castle path is fairly steep, we would advise the path is not accessible for
wheel chair users or visitors with mobility issues.
