About the event

This event is inspired by the work of Miss Hope MacDougall, who dedicated her life to her passion: documenting the social history of Scotland's working people, predominantly in Argyll & the isles. Hope was inspired by women historians before her, and she in turn inspired countless future collectors. Join us to hear from a range of speakers who will discuss not just Hope herself, but topics including: IF Grant's founding of the Highland Folk Museum, archaeological practice in Scotland, the Scottish Women's Rural Institute, and the Glen Coe folk museum among others. Following a complimentary lunch, attendees can enjoy demonstrations of natural dying, spinning and basket making - all traditional crafts documented in Miss Hope's collection.

We hope to celebrate the often unseen contributions that women collectors, historians and archaeologists have made to the documentation of Scotland's incredible story.
