About the Dunollie Collections
The MacDougall of Dunollie Preservation Trust collections represent almost 1,000 years of Scottish history and are among the most significant surviving collections associated with a Highland clan still rooted in its ancestral landscape. Together, they tell the story of the MacDougall family, Oban and Argyll, and everyday life across the Highlands and Islands.
The Hope MacDougall Collection
A nationally important social history collection documenting domestic, agricultural and industrial life through traditional textiles, weaving equipment, tools, fishing artefacts and objects from rural communities. On loan from the Hope MacDougall Trust.
The MacDougall Collection
A remarkable collection of furniture, costume, military artefacts, decorative arts and personal possessions associated with Dunollie and successive generations of the MacDougall family. Highlights include Highland dress, historic textiles, weaponry, furnishings, the medieval Brooch of Lorn and a 15th-century Bronze Horse (Aquamanile).
The Dunollie Archives (not yet online)
Documentary records dating from the 15th to 20th centuries, including estate and legal records, correspondence, military papers and Jacobite material. The archives provide an invaluable resource for research into Highland history, genealogy, land management and Scottish political history.
Together, these collections underpin the Trust’s exhibitions, public programmes, research and education, while offering exciting opportunities for future interpretation, digitisation and collaborative research.
