Perched above Oban Bay, Dunollie offers visitors the chance to explore a medieval castle ruin, discover the history of Clan MacDougall in our 1745 House Museum, wander through beautiful woodland grounds and enjoy stunning views across Oban Bay and the islands beyond.
We have extensive experience welcoming organised groups and coach parties and understand the importance of making a group visit enjoyable, straightforward and well organised.
When coach groups arrive, a member of our team will welcome your party and provide a short introduction to the site and its history before visitors explore for themselves. This personal welcome is something our group visitors particularly enjoy.
Dunollie is also home to the Kettle Garden Café and Draper’s Shop, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy local food and home baking or browse our range of Scottish and locally made gifts.

Groups of 10 or more receive a 10% discount.
Coach drivers and tour guides visit free of charge, and we are pleased to offer them complimentary tea or coffee at the Kettle Garden Café.
We are happy to work with the voucher systems commonly used by coach and tour operators and can invoice groups after their visit if preferred.
Coach Access & Parking
We can accommodate up to two coaches in our visitor car park at any one time.
Most coach groups contact us in advance, allowing us to ensure there is adequate space available and that a member of our team is ready to welcome and assist your arrival.
When coaches are using the main visitor car park, we use our overflow parking for cars and other vehicles to ensure there is sufficient space for everyone.
As coach spaces are limited, we recommend contacting us in advance to reserve your space.
How long should a visit take?
We recommend allowing a minimum of one hour for a group visit.
If your itinerary allows more time, Dunollie can easily provide a two to three hour visit, giving your group time to enjoy the castle, museum, grounds, views, café and shop at a more relaxed pace.
A longer visit can include:
- Exploring the medieval castle ruins
- Discovering the history of Clan MacDougall in the 1745 House Museum
- Enjoying the woodland grounds and spectacular views
- Visiting the Kettle Garden Café
- Browsing the Draper’s Shop
- Watching our 45-minute audio-visual film for visitors who cannot access the castle path

On arrival, a member of our team will meet your group and give a short introduction to Dunollie, its history and the site before visitors begin exploring.
From the story of the MacDougall clan and the medieval castle to the Jacobite era and the history of the 1745 House, there is plenty to discover.
Our knowledgeable and welcoming team are always happy to help your group make the most of their visit.
Kettle Garden Café
The Kettle Garden Café provides the perfect place for your group to relax and enjoy something to eat or drink during their visit.
Our accessible outdoor café serves delicious homemade food and baking, including fresh scones made daily, home baking, light lunches and barista-style coffee.
We cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets, with other dietary requirements happily accommodated where possible with advance notice.
Table service is available for visitors who may have difficulty accessing the café counter.
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to enjoy Dunollie.
Most of our site is accessible, including the paths from the car park to reception, the Kettle Garden Café and the 1745 House Museum. Accessible toilets are available within the museum.
The castle itself sits at the top of a short but fairly steep path and is not suitable for wheelchair users. However, visitors who cannot make the climb can still experience the castle and its spectacular setting through our dedicated 45-minute audio-visual film.
The film brings together the history of Dunollie, the castle and the surrounding landscape, allowing visitors with mobility difficulties to experience the story and views from the hill without having to make the climb.
If members of your group have specific access requirements, please contact us in advance and we will be happy to discuss how we can make their visit as enjoyable as possible.
For Tour Guides & Coach Drivers
Tour guides and coach drivers receive free entry to Dunollie, along with complimentary tea or coffee at the Kettle Garden Café.
We understand that drivers and guides need a little time to relax while their group explores, and our team will be on hand should they need any assistance during their visit.
